Denouncing Alpha Kappa Alpha, Part I
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
I thought I could get through renouncing AKA without openly sharing the explicit details of my own journey. What a disservice that would've been 1) to the display of God's grace, 2) to my own edification, and 3) to those of you searching for clarity. While I have freely shared my renouncement of AKA with anyone who’d inquire or suggest that I was still a member, it was never as public, direct, or celebrated as my initial acceptance of it. So, here it is:
I have renounced my membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and I denounce its practices.🎉
At the time of writing this, the renouncement process has been almost ten years in the making. There are a few reasons for this "delay." The most immediate reason is that while I always knew I wouldn't be a member for long (I'll speak to this later), I lacked the knowledge to realize the severity of my alignment with the organization. In the years to come, I would gain an understanding and respond accordingly.
With this understanding, I've received an insatiable conviction to give a clarion call to those still vacillating, and to those simply ignorant to the Truth.
I will not be able to rest until I've done so. God has made it abundantly clear to me that I am one of the many growing voices who have been charged to call His children out from this particular ungodly covenant. To be clear, this clarion call is for the sorority/fraternity member who professes to be a follower of Jesus Christ and proclaims Him as Lord — a Christian. A born again believer. If that's not you, you're still welcomed (and encouraged) to continue reading, but this is primarily for the Christian.
I aim to make this as accessible and digestible as I can, so my experience will spread across multiple posts. I am currently not a Bible teacher, a biblical scholar, or one of any leadership authority within the Church. I am simply a daughter. A servant whose desire is for their life to reflect and honor their faith. As such, as I share my journey, you are charged to study and to sincerely seek God for yourself. May my experience and learnings simply be a means of overcoming for you.
Here's what to expect:
My journey to joining AKA
The rituals of AKA vs. the Bible
The challenges of denouncing
Resources to learn more
[Note: "AKA" is being used as it is my experience. But its name can be replaced with any divine nine organization, masonic organization, etc.]
Okay, now that the disclaimers are out of the way😅, let's begin. I'd be remiss if I didn't start with setting the foundation. For me, it does not suffice to simply share my experience without equipping you to properly understand and to make your own sound decision. Below are terms and scriptures I'd like for you to study. Don't simply read it. Study it. This is not an exhaustive list, but it will build a framework for analyzing the story to come. I encourage you to study each one individually beyond its basic definition.

Denouncing Alpha Kappa Alpha, Part II: Joining AKA
Provided below is a general overview of my coming to AKA and the moments that eventually led to my renouncement. As indicated in part I, this is primarily for those who proclaim to be Christian and strives to live a life surrendered to that. More specifically, this message is for all Christians in Black greek-lettered organizations (BGLOs), regardless o…
